Basic Movements for Getting Started in Canoeing

Compared with the upright board and windsurfing, the canoe is paddling through the “single handle and double paddle” method. Every time the oar is dropped, the movement of the boat will be directly reflected, so it is very easy to get started.

When the player is paddling forward, the paddle head is fully inserted into the water at 90 degrees every time, and then repeated left and right, the canoe will keep going straight. If you turn, for example, if you want to move to the left, keep it alone. Paddle on the right side and the canoe will turn left, and vice versa.

If you want the canoe to move faster, remember to keep the paddle head “close to the hull” as much as possible when you lower the oar, so that the canoe will get more acceleration power; if you want to turn faster, set the paddle head when you lower the oar A little bit “away from the hull”, the hull will turn more and more clearly than the one-side oar close to the hull.

Before boarding the boat, pay attention to whether the sea is under your knees, and then hold the left and right sides of the hull with both hands, place the oars horizontally in front of the seat, and then slowly move your thighs to the seat.

After sitting down, place the oars on your thighs, bend your legs slightly forward, and sit on your body. This action requires a lot of waist strength, but it is easier to achieve balance when paddling. If the waist muscles are too tired, you can temporarily cross your knees. Sit and take a break. In fact, just applying it to balance movements, the body will unknowingly exercise a lot of muscles that are rarely used in ordinary days, and the physical energy consumption will be greater than imagined.

If the canoe is overturned, after the player falls into the water, remember to swim back to the canoe and re-board the boat as soon as possible, and then paddle with the palm of your hand, go to the position where the oars floated to pick it up, don’t rush to get it Oars. If the hull is unfortunately washed away by the waves, it is useless to hold the oars in the middle of the sea. Instead, it is safer to sit back on the canoe for resupply, or row directly back to the shore with the palm of your hand. Don’t underestimate this little habit.
